Can Realtors in your state Write Off Health Insurance?

Yes. As a self-employed real estate agent in your state you can deduct 100% of your health, dental and vision premiums for yourself, your spouse and dependents as an above-the-line deduction.

The rules

The deduction can't exceed your net self-employment income from real estate. You can't take it for any month you were eligible for a spouse's employer plan. And you can't double-dip with a premium tax credit — the deduction is reduced by any subsidy you received.

If you're an S-corp

Many top producers in your state run an S-corp. The premium has to be paid or reimbursed by the corporation and reported on your W-2 (box 1) for you to take the deduction personally. Pay it from your personal account and you lose it.

State income taxes

If your state has an income tax, the self-employed health premium deduction lowers state taxable income too; in no-income-tax states like Texas, Tennessee and Florida it only helps federally.

Stack an HSA

Choose an HSA-eligible plan and you also deduct contributions — $4,400 individual / $8,750 family in 2026. Several private PPO plans available in your state are HSA-eligible.

Which plans qualify?

Marketplace and private plans both qualify. The deduction doesn't care where you bought it — only that you paid it as a self-employed person.

Not tax advice; confirm with your CPA. For the plan side, check your options.
